Rare and original, ca1900 Cast Iron, Lever Driven, Advertising Countertop Cigar Cutter in outstanding, professionally restored condition. This beautiful, Nickel Plated, cast iron Cigar Cutter measures approx. 6” tall (to the top of the push lever) and 7 1/2” by 4” at the base. The Countertop Cutter advertises “Della Casa Juniors” 5 Cent Cigars.
The Cutter features a thick, glass plate on the front that displays an embossed, chromolithograph label advertising Della Casa Juniors Cigars). Althought the Cutter does not carry a manufacturer’s mark it does carry the makers identification number - “854” - cast into the base and was likely manufactured by The Erie Specialty. Co. of Erie, Pennsylvania as this Cigar Cutter – push-lever mechanism was patented May 19th, 1891 by Erie. The Cigar Cutter displays in excellent to near mint, working condition - the blade is sharp and the tension spring strong.
All of the cast iron components of this outstanding, original Advertising Cigar Cutter are in very good condition - there are no cracks, chips, breaks, repairs or physical damage of any kind. The body of the Cigar Cutter features a rich and warm surface patina with what appears to be a very old japanned surfacing as can be seen in the scans below. As stated above the Cutter’s mechanism is in excellent, working condition - the blade is sharp and the tension spring strong and the surface has been professionally restored and replated.
